chapter of the
Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen
ABOUT US:
You are invited to join the Chester County Craft Guild (CCCG), an educational organization serving the community and encouraging the study and practice of traditional and contemporary crafts. Membership in CCCG is open to any person over the age of 18 whose interests in crafts are in accord with, and who will help carry out the purposes of the CCCG.
OUR PURPOSE:
CCCG MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS:
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
We are a chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen (PGC). To join the Chester County Craft Guild, you must also join the PGC. Both the PGC and the CCCG require annual dues. The membership process is handled through the PGC. This can be done at the PGC website, www.pacrafts.org, by following the ‘Become a member’ link at the top of the page. Members of the CCCG are required to attend two meetings per year and pay yearly dues in a timely fashion to remain members in good standing.
The guild offers the opportunity to apply for juried status. In order to apply for this status, a member must have attended two meetings and be a member in good standing.
Jurying is held twice per year by application to the Standards Chairperson. The jurying process itself involves having your work judged by your peers to determine if it has attained the level of craftsmanship set forth by the Standards Committee. We encourage members to apply for chapter jurying as a way to maintain the high level of design and craftsmanship expected of our
members. Attaining juried status in the CCCG is a step toward juried status with the PGC. Our chapter is committed to helping members attain PGC juried status.
In order to maintain juried status within the chapter, you must attend two meetings per year.
MEETINGS:
Our monthly meetings are held at the Chester County Art Association in West Chester on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM (except we do not meet in July or August).
For directions, Mapquest to: 100 North Bradford Ave, West Chester, PA 19382 (610 696-5600)
CRAFT SHOWS:
The Chester County Craft Guild sponsors one or two craft shows each year. One show is held in the spring and the other possibly in the fall. The location for these shows is the West Pikeland Cultural Center. This is in historic Yellow Springs, an area that has a reputation for fine arts and crafts. Contemporary and traditional crafts by over 25 juried local artisans are featured in the shows.
CCCG members often share a booth at the Pennsylvania State Craft Fairs to represent the local Guild. This is an excellent opportunity to experience a quality show.
The CCCG is a member of the Brandywine River Museum. During the fall season, the guild sponsors a booth outside the museum. For a nominal fee, juried members can exhibit in the courtyard during the available weekends.
Membership in the CCCG allows you the opportunity to network with local craftspeople. There is shared information about the crafts themselves as well as various show opportunities. The guild also maintains a mailing list and you will be able to participate in the guild’s website.
HISTORY:
The CCCG had its beginnings in 1980. There were 19 members that signed the original charter on May 29, 1980 and we were approved as a chapter of the PGC on June 15, 1980. The first show was held that same year and the guild has been a vibrant regional craft presence since that time.
AGAIN:
Our monthly meetings are held at the Chester County Art Association in West Chester on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM (except we do not meet in July or August). Hope to see you there!
